Camp questions, answered
Where do camps run, and what are the hours?
Camps run at our Youth Connect location, 727 Speedvale Ave W, Unit 3, Guelph. Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Extended care is available before and after camp for an additional fee, so let us know during registration if you need it.
Can my child receive 1:1 support?
Yes. Individualized 1:1 support may be available for children who need extra assistance. Please tell us during intake, and our Coordinator will review your child's support needs and confirm we can provide the right staffing before your registration is finalized. The additional fee for 1:1 support is $40 per hour.
My child has medical needs. Can Hopewell support them?
Yes, we are able to support a variety of medical needs. Our staff are trained in medication administration, seizure support and G-tube support. Please share all medical information during intake so we can review your child's requirements and build the right plan for camp. If your child needs additional medical support, we will review that with you before confirming registration, so we know we can meet their needs safely.
Can Hopewell support Behaviour Support Plans and personal care?
Yes. Our staff are trained in personal care and in positive behaviour support strategies, and are certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI). We can review a Behaviour Support Plan before your child attends. Please note that because of program regulations and the camp environment, not every strategy in a plan can always be implemented exactly as written. If anything needs to be adapted, the Manager will go through it with you first.
Can I use SSAH funding to pay for camp?
Yes. Families are welcome to use Special Services at Home (SSAH) funding for Youth Connect camps. We can provide invoices and supporting documentation for reimbursement, and can send documentation directly to your caseworker if that helps. Just raise it during intake.
What should my child bring to camp?
Comfortable clothing, a spare change of clothes including underwear and socks, running shoes, sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, a packed lunch, and any medication in its original labelled container. On swim or water days, a bathing suit, and a life jacket if applicable. A car seat too, if one is needed for transportation. We recommend labelling everything with your child's name.
What if I need to cancel my child's registration?
Plans change, we understand. Let the Youth Connect Coordinator know as soon as you can. More than two weeks before camp: full refund. One to two weeks before: 50% refund. Less than one week before: no refund, because staffing, programming and your child's space have already been reserved. Once camp has begun we cannot refund or credit missed days, illness or early withdrawal. Refunds for exceptional circumstances or medical emergencies are reviewed case by case.
Who do I contact if I have questions?
Reach out to the Youth Connect Coordinator any time, before or after registering. We are happy to answer questions, talk through your child's support needs, and help you work out whether Youth Connect is the right fit for your family. Send the Youth Connect team a message or call 519-827-7579.
