Our Accessibility Plan: Easy Read

This page uses short sentences and simple words. It tells you our plan to make things easier for everyone.

What is a barrier?

A barrier is something that stops you doing what you want to do.

A stair can be a barrier. You cannot get in the door.

Hard words can be a barrier. You cannot understand them.

A website can be a barrier. It does not work for you.

We want to take barriers away.

What is this plan?

This is our plan for 5 years.

It starts in 2026. It ends in 2031.

The plan says what we do now.

The plan says what we will do next.

The law says we must make this plan. We want to make it too.

What do we do now?

You can bring your service animal. It can come with you.

You can bring a support person. They can come with you.

You can use your own equipment. You can use your wheelchair. You can use your talking machine.

We can give you the words in another way. We can print them in big letters. We can read them to you. We can send them to your computer.

New staff learn how to help you. They do a training course in their first month of work.

We help you get places. We drive you to programs and appointments.

Sometimes our van is not right for you. Maybe your wheelchair does not fit.

Then we book a taxi that fits your wheelchair. You still get to go.

You can tell us what you think. We will answer you in 3 days. We count from the day you tell us.

Sometimes something stops working

Sometimes a door or a lift stops working.

We put up a sign to tell you.

The sign says why. It says how long it will take to fix.

We tell you another way to get in.

Is something broken in your home? Please tell us. Call 519-836-9641.

What will we do next?

We are making our staff training better. We are building new courses. They will teach staff more about helping people with disabilities.

You can help us choose what to fix. We will ask you what is hard for you.

We will look for barriers in the homes where people live. We will look in our offices too.

We will fix what we find. We will write down what we fixed.

We will make more Easy Read pages.

We will check things before we buy them. We want everyone to be able to use them.
